The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is a part of Canada’s Express Entry system, which facilitates the immigration of skilled workers who can contribute to the Canadian economy. This program targets individuals with specific trade skills and offers a streamlined process to achieve permanent residency.
To qualify for the FSTP, you must meet the following criteria
At least two years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work) in a skilled trade within the five years before you apply.
A valid job offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority.
Meet the minimum language proficiency in English or French (Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 for speaking and listening, and CLB level 4 for reading and writing).
Be admissible to Canada, meaning you must not have a criminal record or pose a risk to Canadian security. Residence: Plan to live outside the province of Quebec.

The FSTP targets trades under the following major and minor groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
Industrial, electrical, and construction trades
Maintenance and equipment operation trades
Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production
Chefs and cooks
Processing, manufacturing, and utilities supervisors and central control operators
Butchers and bakers
Navigating the application process for the Federal Skilled Trades Program involves several key steps
Enter your details and include your work experience, language test results, and other personal information.
If you meet the eligibility requirements, you will be placed in the Express Entry pool and ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The highest-ranking candidates will receive an ITA for permanent residency.
Once you receive an ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency, including all required documents.
Your application will be processed within six months, and if successful, you will receive confirmation of permanent residency.
